It's already August, can you believe it?! Which means that there are only a few weeks left of lazy schedules and sunny skies before fall is here. Summertime is arguably the best time of year in the PNW, so get out and enjoy it! Here are 5 places to visit within driving distance of Pierce/King Counties to make the most of your summer!
Check out the tide pools! Rosario Head at Deception State Pass Park offers some of the best tide pools in the state. A variety of sea life can be seen in the tide pools, including sea stars, urchins, fish, & crabs! Plus, they are just a short walk from the parking lot which makes them great for all ages.
Kayak the Sound! Metro Parks Tacoma offers weekend kayak rentals at the Point Defiance Marina, with Owen Beach launch point. Not only can you paddle around the Pt Defiance marina and take in the sights, but you will also be able to see Vashon Island, Gig Harbor, Commencement Bay, & even a ferry or two. Bonus, seals are known to hang out in the area!
Go for a picnic & a swim! A Nolte State Park, you will be able to do both! Enjoy a relaxing day on the Shores of Deep Lake. This lake is perfect for a swim or a float. There's plenty of grassy areas along the shores to sit up your picnic lunch too!
Get a cone! Check out "Scoop on Main" for one of the hottest new ice cream shops in the area! Not only does "Scoop" offer a wide variety of ice cream flavors, there's other snacks available too. Plus, there's lawn games available to play while you enjoy your cone!
Take a hike! Summer would not be complete without a hike to take in all the beauty PNW summers offer. Just outside of Eatonville, is the hike to Little Mashel Falls. On this trail you will find not one, not two, but THREE waterfalls! The middle fall offers the opportunity to go behind the cave. While this is a fairly easy hike, it is a long one at around 5 miles.
